Freiston Shore was one of the UK’s largest managed realignment schemes when 66 ha of farmland was converted into tidal saltmarsh, a saline lagoon was created and arable land was turned to wet grassland. All benefiting birds such as redshank, avocet and ringed plover.

What you will see
Up to 5000 black-tailed godwits spend the winter in this part of The Wash. Knot start to arrive in late June and by late summer can number 16000 birds. Oyster catchers often gather in large numbers for high tide.
